Students in 7th grade will no longer participate in Accelerated Reader. They will, however, continue outside reading and create a number of book projects to demonstrate their understanding of the novels they have read. Students may choose their own novels; novels (fiction) may be of a genre of the student's choice unless specified by the teacher. Books must be 150+ pages and 4.0+ for academic and 4.5+ for honors.
There will be one book project required for each nine weeks. The reading for these books will be in addition to any novels being read in class as part of the language arts curriculum. Students must read at least one book per quarter, but if that book is finished before the quarter's end students must begin another book. Students are given a small amount of time in class each day to read the book of their choice, but students will need to read outside of class as well.
