 About Mrs. Shadish:

I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish.  I completed my Master of Arts in Teaching degree at Chatham University in 2004.  I have taken numerous continuing education classes in the areas of discipline, ESOL, gifted and talented education, and school leadership.  I earned my K-12 Principal certification from the University of Pittsburgh in 2011.  Since my career began in 2004, I have gathered experience in teaching grades 1-12 in both Pennsylvania and South Carolina.  

Content:

We will be using the McGraw Hill Wonders reading series (http://connected.mcgraw-hill.com/connected/login.do) to guide us through reading, English, and writing.  Fifth graders will be exposed to a variety of genres, skills, and strategies.  In Social Studies, we will be learning about the American people and their land.  Fifth graders will explore history from early life in the western hemisphere through the American Revolution.  In science, we will explore the diversity of animals, the changing surface of the Earth, and variables.

Assessment:

Students in fifth grade will be assessed on accumulation of AR points, homework completion, quizzes, tests, and projects throughout the year. 

Rules:

  • Be respectful
  • Be responsible
  • Be ready to learn

Consequences:

Students will receive a mark in their planner for the following:
  •  U - unprepared for class
  • HW - incomplete/missing homework
  • B - behaving inappropriately/being disrespectful
Three marks in a one week period will result in a discipline referral.

 Rewards:

  • Praise
  • Positive notes home
  • Reward coupons/prizes
  • Class treat
